My new fantasy novel, The Branches of Time, will be released on 19th June.

Ho appena letto un'interessante recensione sul mio ultimo romanzo fantasy I Rami del Tempo. La lettrice scrive: "La descrizione delle scene di sesso: diciamo che erano "troppo" anche se capisco che quelle scene siano da contestualizzare e bisogna anche pensare a chi ha fatto quei gesti (re Beanor è un esempio)."

In questi mesi ho letto pareri molto differenti sulle scene di sesso nei libri. Secondo alcuni sono troppo poche poche e troppo soft, ma secondo altri sono eccessive.

Il mio approccio, che raccomando anche ai miei colleghi autori, è molto semplice: evidenziare la presenza di questo tipo di contenuti nella sinossi del libro. In alcune edizioni dei miei libri ho aggiunto questo avviso: Questo libro contiene alcune scene di natura erotica. Credo che questo basti. Chiunque voglia acquistare quel libro è avvisato sulla presenza di contenuto erotico.

Io scrivo principalmente fantasy e fantascienza, dunque un lettore potrebbe chiedersi: perché mai mischiare questi generi all'erotico?
Il motivo è semplice: i miei libri trattano della vita degli esseri umani (e non solo) e la sfera intima è una delle componenti essenziali della nostra esistenza. Dunque, mi sembra giusto che abbia il giusto spazio.

#Sex and books... How much do you like it?

I have just received a fresh new review for my forthcoming fantasy novel The Branches of Time. (The book is currently in Italian, but the English version will be available from the Amazon Kindle store within one month.)

The reviewer writes that she was a bit surprised by the hot parts of my ebook, although she accepted that they were appropriate for the characters.

As an erotic author, I come across very different opinions about sex in books in the reviews my work receives. Some readers comment that there’s too much, but according to some others there’s not enough!

My approach, which I recommend to my fellow writers, is simple: make it crystal clear to your readers what they are going to find. For instance, I add this simple ‘warning’ to my book description: This book contains explicit scenes of a sexual nature. In my opinion, that is enough. Any reader thinking about buying my ebook will know that it features erotic material. 

So, being primarily a fantasy and science fiction author, why do I write about sex too? Simple... 

I write about life, and sex is part of life. I therefore can't see any reason why I should keep away from certain elements of it.

  

But I've written too much. This post is primarily to discover YOUR opinion about this issue. So, tell me, how much do you like sex in books?

Those familiar with Luca Rossi’s previous book, the collection of short stories ‘Galactic Energies’, will not be disappointed with this, his first full-length novel. ‘The Branches of Time’ takes the reader on an intricate journey using Rossi’s genre-busting mix of fantasy, science fiction and erotic overtones in a tale that will entertain as it challenges our perception of time. The premise is original and is handled with mastery: the effect on a small isolated group of people of changes made to the timeline where they exist. Rossi’s approach is intimate in that he explores how the events influence the individuals, rather than the totality of the world they inhabit. By employing this tactic, he invests the reader in his characters and their particular understanding of the alarming occurrences that befall them.

Sci-fi, particularly, is all about pushing the boundaries, and the author creates a fast-paced tale which will have the reader question their understanding of the solidity of history and time itself. In doing so, he adds to the richness of genre in a way that Clifford D. Simak, Philip K. Dick and many other great writers have previously done.
Highly recommended for readers who like their entertainment with deep significance.

A lonely journey of truth into the unknown.
First off, I would so much want to say a big ginormous thanks to Luca for giving me this to read. Loved every minuite of the story. Found it to be an extremely intriguing Read. After reading the staggering Award winning Galactic Energies, I was so excited about getting to read this wonderful new story of Lucas., both are such page turners.
He has worked wonders on this outstanding and amazing book. Luca is such an amazing person, and he has so much talent, creating this story for us to enjoy. The story itself is such an easy read to follow, writing is so clear also, and Lucas imagination is one I greatly admire a huge deal.
Imagine during the wedding ceremony, the unfortunate happens and you have to run for cover? There's not even anytime to breath, for if you do, you could be exterminated.
What caused this shower to happen? Could this of been caused by a Meteorite, or some other greater force that's unknown to man?
But where have the bodies disappeared to, and how did they get moved, there were too many of them?
What about magic, that might have explained just to where and how the bodies moved, wouldn't it?
Well done Luca, you've done it yet again and I'm honoured to know you. I'm so proud of you entirely. This man is a genius. I know everyone is addicted to this fab man just like I am.

L. R. How did you start writing BDSM?

C. M. With a pencil.

Aha! At about 35,000 feet in the air, bored senseless on a long-haul flight. Some airlines have really bad movies.  I’ve always enjoyed writing and I have half a ton of unfinished manuscripts on my laptop – in genres ranging from romance, paranormal through sci-fi. BDSM is just too much fun. I love the power-play and the discipline. I’m a sucker for romance and even though my books are very dark, there will be heart-warming (and tortured) romance element inside them. All of that glorious passion and emotion is too much to resist!

L. R. What inspires you?

C. M. I live in a constant daydream with all my characters and they stay in the back of my head as I work through my day. Driving, music and that wonderful space between lying down at night and dreaming inspires me.

L. R. What are you currently working on?

C. M. I’m now about 20,000 words through ‘A Rough Ride’ which is the fifth book in the Pony Tales series. I’m really enjoying myself. I’m now writing about Jenny’s specially designed latex catsuit – also known as ‘The device’  – which is going to torment her to the brink of orgasm for two whole days with no respite. Oh yum.

L. R. What is your daily routine?

C. M. Wake up. Brush teeth. Brush hair. KIDDING! If you meant what is my daily routine with regards to writing then I’ll be honest and say I write for about two hours in the evening. That’s it. I put my head down, plug in my iPod and I write. Some days I’ll write just three hundred words and others over a thousand. I like the sexy scenes! It’s the inbetween filling I have trouble with, believe it or not. 

L. R. Do you enjoy BDSM in real life?

C. M. Yes! And like my author bio says, I really do have two riding crops stored away in my closet. I’m what they call a switch. Sometimes I like being dominant and wielding instruments of torment upon my partner and other times I like to be the submissive at the mercy of another. I love it when someone can get inside your head and cause your body to go into melt down. 

L. R. Where would you like to live?

C. M. If I spoke French fluently, I’d love to live in the south of France but to be honest, I’m happy living in a tiny, sleepy village in the UK. I’m at one with nature. Sheep, cows, chickens… and no, I don’t do that kind of thing. I’m English. The Welsh, however…

L. R. What are your favorite shoes?

C. M. HAHA. I HATE SHOE SHOPPING. Yes, you heard it here first. I’m a girl and I hate shoe

shopping. When I do get around to buying them I love boots and I adore really high heels. I can walk on 5 inch spikes with relative ease although I might go around slightly crippled for a few days afterward. Just in case you were wondering if I really am a girl – I LOVE SHOPPING FOR CLOTHES and painting my toenails red, the list goes on…

L. R. What is your favorite quote?

C. M. “You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is like an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty.” – Muhatma Ghandi

L. R. Is writing your primary job?

C. M. It would be if it paid the bills. I’m hoping that maybe one day it will. I’ve had so many jobs over the years and so much fun travelling that I have no complaints with regards to work. Who was it that said ‘Find a job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life?’ Whoever he/she was, they were right. 

L. R. Sell your book in only nine words

C. M. Ooh tough. Those words don’t count. Hmm.

I am honored to receive this important recognition by the magazine Wired.

The Top 10 Italian indie authors

Galactic Energies is a collection of fantasy and science fiction short stories. It is full of interesting ideas that could each become a full-length novel. If you want a clean, engaging read and you prefer simple, readable prose then this title is for you.

I liked ‘Remind’, the first tale. It is the story of a small business enterprise in the 2.0 age. The company grows, fuelled by politics, bureaucracy and the ego of its founder until it degenerates.

All the stories are enjoyable and easy to read from the beginning to the end. In many of them the female characters are sexy, wicked and they develop their secret plots, as in "The Kingdom of Turlis."

The only fault is that sometimes the stories end too quickly. Maybe the author should be more patient developing them. In any case, this is an ebook that readers should download and read in one breath.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars



I had great expectations about The Shaman's Temptation by Erin Moore and I was not disappointed.
I loved the beautiful and well described settings, especially the Arizona desert with that nice magical styles and I was crazy about the character's psychologies.
Madeleine is amazing. It's easy to feel her deeper emotions and her thoughts but it's always hard to guess what she's trying to do next. Her love story with Tak, a handsome Apache, is full of surprises and unexpected turns.
I loved the way Moore describes sex between them: very exciting and never too disturbing.
The book is a great combination of magic, amazing creatures like the shape-shifter shaman, passion, love and everyday problems like money and lust.
The best is the great eroticism and the outstanding romantic touch!

Quando leggiamo ci caliamo nella vita dei personaggi, viviamo le loro imprese, percepiamo le loro paure, impariamo dai loro errori. Acquisiamo in noi quella ricchezza derivante da un'esperienza diversa e più ampia, che spazia in luoghi e tempi dove difficilmente saremmo arrivati.

Credo che questo capiti più con la lettura che con altri mezzi come il cinema  o la televisione, che hanno un impatto più immediato, ma scavano meno in profondità.

Ieri, in una delle quattro recensioni che sono comparse su Amazon.com a proposito di Galactic Energies/Energie della Galassia, Sheryl ha scritto: "I felt compassion and shame. I felt excited. This story really moved me. [...] THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOU."

Queste ultime cinque parole mi hanno fatto davvero piacere, perché danno un po' più un senso a questo lavoro.
